Joney's Review: In a world of teenage angst, depression and general unrest it’s always good to hear music that doesn’t involve furious guitars and double bass pedals. However the lighter end of the musical spectrum requires actual ear pleasing melodies so we sometimes accept bands of a sub standard level. Thankfully Chris Howard does not accept anything below par when it comes to writing songs.

According to the man himself his next single is to be ‘Waking up’ so I guess that’s a good song to have a look at. I love the way, in parts, the percussion could almost be from a completely different song. The song itself is built on acoustic guitars but the tempo is somewhat faster than you would expect. Timely use of heavier guitars is also very strategically placed and gives the song a bigger sound than we have come to accept from such offerings. There is a slightly rough edge to the vocals, which is clearly heard towards the end of the song but this does not stop Chris showing the full range of his lungs and in parts giving an almost Thom Yorke-esque sound.

Joney's Review: This is a 3 piece band who sound bigger than most 6 piece bands. Their use of vocal harmonies gives a better depth to the songs than any use of extra instruments could.

Their live performance is second to none and I would highly recommend anyone to go see them regardless of musical preference as they always wow their audiences.

There is nothing difficult about listening to their music, it is enjoyable and friendly for all.

We See Foxes
genre: Rock & Pop

location: Liverpool
Joney's Review: I saw this band live before I ever heard their music through my stereo and their live performance drove me to do the later so that was a good start.

There are two things that shine through when listening to them, the vocalist and the skinsman. The drums are very infectious carrying a solid beat through all of the foxes material, they are also as tight as an Italian waiters pants! The vocals, although giving a hint of Liverpudlian, sound more like Mick Jager than John Lennon.

But the music doesn’t start and end there. Simple but effective guitars are also a key factor. 3 chord theory is a proven formula and these guys play off that with a mixture of clean and heavier sounds that build on the already pounding beat provided on percussion.

Imagine the strokes crossed with the hives, through in some dance beats and a splash of northern influence and you have we see foxes. Check them out on the Liverpool circuit.
